Beware of Jeep Craigslist Post That Sounds Too Good to Be True

Ever heard the old adage that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is?

Well, unfortunately, that also holds true in the world of Jeeps, which Jeremy Kohler of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch recently learned.

After coming across this yellow Wrangler on Craigslist priced at $2,000, Kohler thought he’d stumbled on the ultimate Jeep find. And with good reason: his research on Kelley Blue Book found that the Jeep was valued at $10,000.

So, what was the reason given for selling the Wrangler so cheap? Well, supposedly it was the seller’s son’s Jeep, who recently died. The seller went on to inform Kohler (via email) that she preferred to do the transaction through eBay Motors, if that was okay, and sent 45 more photos of the Jeep, hoping to seal the deal.

Luckily, Kohler decided to investigate a little more before buying the Wrangler. So he Googled the text in the seller’s email. His search yielded warnings from Craigslist and eBay, signaling that the listing was probably a scam.
