Jeep-Skeptic YouTuber Finally Buys Wrangler After Years of Bashing

After Years of Habitual Jeep Hating, a Skeptic Bought a Wrangler

A man who ‘talked a lot of sh*t’ about Wranglers brought home a 2017 JK to experience Jeep ownership.

Father and son YouTuber duo from TrashPandaGarage who document their building and fabricating adventures, finally bought a JK Wrangler. Before that, he said, he’d never considered owning one.

“In my small social circle, I’ve talked a lot of sh*t about Wrangler,” he said. In the three-minute video, he explained that he’d hated Jeeps due to the culture of “Jeeple.”

“I don’t hate the Wrangler, I just hate what it’s become,” he continued. “In the times of the CJ, [the Wrangler] was a pretty unique vehicle… But now it’s just everywhere.” He also said the Jeep wave and Duck, Duck, Jeep thing had to “stop immediately,” and have were two Jeep things that immediately turned him off. He also threw shade on the angry grille trend.

He couldn’t help but envy the Wrangler’s aftermarket availability

As off-road enthusiasts, both father and son have owned multiple cars from varying manufacturers. With all of them, they experienced a lack of aftermarket parts to customize them.

“I’ll admit it, as a guy who’s owned a couple of Nissans, a Suzuki, and a Chevy, I’ve always been jealous of Jeep’s aftermarket support,” he said. “And to be clear, when I say, ‘Aftermarket’, I mean powertrain upgrades, armor, and suspension… Out of all Wrangler generations, the JK might have the most aftermarket parts available than any Wrangler ever.”

He also mentioned the JK’s mass production, and how it could be helpful to those looking to get into that #JeepLife. Other automakers, namely Toyota/Lexus and Ford, have incredibly high MSRP figures for their off-road-ready cars. However, since Stellantis produced literally millions of JKs, they’re readily available. Without a surplus, the cost of a less-than-10-year-old JK is much more attractive than a brand-new car.

“I think that in the coming years, the JK is going to be a point of entry for a lot of enthusiasts looking for a car to make their first build,” he said.

He felt himself liking the Wrangler in less than a month

After driving it for 13 days, he got his first CEL – but it turned out to be an EVAP leak. When his wife and son had a chance to drive it, they quickly turned to the dark side. He himself couldn’t help but feel himself falling under the spell of the Jeep.

“It’s actually kind of fun to drive, and my wife and son love it,” he said.
