Check Out This Fully Functional 6-Speed Gearbox Made of Legos
A Gearbox made of Legos? Say that again?
What is it about Legos? These little brick-like pieces attract boys and girls of all ages. Even grown adults ignore the recommended age range printed on the boxes. Car enthusiasts are especially attracted to Legos because they offer kits that allow us to build cars that we adore, like the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 911 GT3 RS. However, there are builders that take matters into their own hands and construct all sorts of different vehicles not offered in kits.

17-year-old Lego builder Dgustafsson13 is just one of those innovative minds that just happened to assemble a completely functional 6-speed gearbox. It even has input and output shafts that come to life when connected to an electric motor! In this video, he rows through the gears to demonstrate the results of the different ratios. How cool is that?
The party piece: The gearbox is completely synchronized. That means buttery smooth shifts up and down the gears. Changing these gears might even be better than what you’re driving at home. And there’s no manual transmission fluid needed, how about that?
Interested in building this for yourself? Not to worry! Dgustafsson13 has a full parts list and complete instructions to replicate the exact gearbox seen in the video. He also has other builds that Lego petrolheads will love, like a city bus, a Scania lorry (18-wheeler), and even a LeMans Prototype-like racer.
