Jeep Wagoneer Shows Off Off-road Skills at 2018 Jeepers Jamboree
Old-school 1988 Jeep Wagoneer takes us through 17 miles of punishing & thrilling trails at the Rubicon Trail in California.
For over 65 years, the Jeepers Jamboree event has been one of the most challenging and rewarding off-road trails for Jeeps. The event brings throngs of Jeeps through the breath-taking Rubicon Trail over the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in California. It’s been called the “Granddaddy of four-wheeling events,” and watching this video it is easy to see why.
The video, shot by Nitro Gear, documents his 1988 Jeep Wagoneer taking on the trail. Don’t be fooled by the almost quaint appearance of the paneled Wagoneer, it has been meticulously made into a very capable off-roading machine. To get ready for this trip, the Wagoneer was custom built with modifications including FiTech EFI, custom blue plaid and tan Interior, fender cut, 37-inch Nitto Tire USA Ridge Grapplers, Method Race wheels, Beadlock wheels, custom built steering with EMF rod ends and steering components, rag joint delete, Ran E-brake cables added inside the frame, custom drive shafts, Nitro Gear and Axle Lunchbox lockers front and rear, ARB air compressor, WARN winch, ARB 4×4 accessories, roof rack, and more.
A cool detail about the Jeepers Jamboree is that there are mechanics on the trail, so if anything needs to be fixed or tweaked along the way, it doesn’t take the participants out of the action. They stay exclusively on the trail for the entire run, so it’s not only a great off-roading experience, but a great way to bond and party along the way.
The video starts with a Jeep array lined up in impressive numbers. Major props to Nitro Gear on the camera work in this video, there are great shots of the the event from a number of angles, as well as cameras set up on board the Jeep Wagoneer to truly capture the action. The trail has a lot of killer crawls, and the video captures it all perfectly. Also, let’s face it, it’s worth a watch just to check out some of the coolest Jeeps we’ve ever seen, on and off the trails.
The terrain is tough, rugged, and wild; but these Jeeps take it all on. Not that he doesn’t catch those very frustrating moments when they get in over their heads, but with determination (and maybe help from a fellow driver) they all make it through. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and if you’re going to get in some of the four-wheeling action, it is hard to imagine any place more perfect for the task.
