1975 Jeep Wagoneer

With a twin turbo V8, riding low on 20-inch wheels, a big speaker box and a wide body kit this 1975 Jeep Wagoneer earns the name ‘Chief.’

Usually when you hear that someone has done a Jeep build you expect to see something that has been lifted and outfitted for hitting the trails. However, that is not always the case. This 1975 Jeep Wagoneer build went in the opposite direction. It has been lowered, rides on 20-inch tires and fitted with a custom wide body. None of those things will help this Jeep on the trail, but this is not a trail rig. This is a SEMA show Jeep, and it was built for on road performance. If the looks alone don’t convince you of that, pop the hood. Staring back at you is a 6.0L LS V8 with twin turbos.

This week’s “Throwback Thursday” Presented by Nitto is all about this 1975 Jeep Wagoneer nicknamed ‘Chief.’ Scottie from the ScottieDTV YouTube channel recently met up with Randy Weaver from Weaver Customs who built this machine. In the video we get a full walkaround of this special SEMA build. If you like what you see, we have good news. The plan is to sell this car at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in January. Start saving your pennies now.

What Powers it?

When you see a build like this that is typically the first question. A stock 1975 Jeep Wagoneer came with a V8 engine, but it was not a V8 like this. This build has a 6.0L LS V8 that is further assisted with a pair of turbochargers. The engine is connected to a 4L80E transmission. This Jeep sounds great and now has gobs of reliable LS power. How reliable? Well, when it had only 1 mile on it the completed build took on the Hot Rod Power Tour which was a thousand-mile road trip. The Jeep ran flawlessly for the entire trip and never gave even a hint of trouble.

Exterior

If you ever saw a 1975 Jeep Wagoneer, then you know that this looks almost nothing like the original Jeep. The front end of this build is from a 1965 Jeep Gladiator. The fender flares cover a set of Detroit Steel wheels. They are 20×11 in the rear and 20×8 up front. The wheels are wrapped with Nitto tires including 315-millimeter-wide steamrollers out back. The Pepper Grey paint gives the Jeep an industrial bare metal look. You will also notice the low stance of this Jeep and it is not adjustable. The ride height is static, so the Jeep always looks this awesome.

Interior

The interior of this Jeep is clean and simple like the exterior. A Joes lightweight steering wheel sits in front of a set of simple white on black gauges. Another dominant feature on the inside is the large Pioneer speaker box located just behind the rear bench seat. We are not sure if anyone would ever get tired of listening to that wonderful LS engine. However, if you did want to listen to some music there is plenty of firepower here.
