Get the Skinny on This ’72 Retro Wagoneer
Here’s an idea for a unique way to outfit a Jeep, which you probably haven’t considered.
Of course, the bright orange steel wheels and vintage skinny tires might not work on every make and model in the line-up. But they definitely give this ’72 Wagoneer a cool retro feel, as highlighted in a Four Wheeler report.
The tires are 6.50-16 Firestone bias-ply knobby rubber roadsters from Coker Tire. And the wheels were pulled from a flat-fender Willys Jeep that had seen its better days. Apparently, the tires were pretty popular with military trucks, and have since developed a fairly big fan base with retro 4X4 restorers.
According to the team at Four Wheeler, the skinny tires fitted on the Wagoneer proved surprisingly capable while making a climb during an off-road maneuver. But they lacked some of the smoother handling appeal that others might prefer in a Jeep, even when going for a more vintage look.
