Default Polk Audio speakers

Are you happy with them? What do you have? Are you running a factory head unit and amp?

I found one of those buy one pair get a second pair half off deals so I'm thinking of replacing the dash speakers, the tweeters and the soundbar speakers.

Thanks for the help!

I just bought some MM-651's and plan on running them with an amp (Punch 200). I am doing the install after Thanksgiving and will report back.

yeah I put those in a month or so back, and honesty they need a amp and a better sub to go with them. the highs are very good but has no low end which they shouldn't being component speakers. I am still waiting to put the sub, amp, and 3sixty in I also think because it's a jeep your not going to get that great sound like you would in a suv the speaker placement and acoustics of the jeep just are not the greatest so what I'm trying to say is yeah they are decent but don't go in thinking its going to sound like a concert lol

I haven't gotten around to upgrading my Jeep, but I just put a set of Polk db691 and polk db651s in my truck. They are 'ok' - but still pretty lacking. They don't even touch the Focal's I used to have in a previous Honda.

Thanks guys...I think you just saved me some money. I'll wait to upgrade until I can get an amp and better speakers.

My first pass at upgrading the sound system was replacing the factory tweeters with the quardratec supertweeters, than I put in two pairs of Polk DB 651s... I have the inifinity system with sub, overall the sound was much improved but bass response was lacking and the I think the infinity amp is pretty noisey at higher volume.
My second pass I replaced the factory 8" sub speaker with a kenwood 8" shallow sub (in the factory enclosure), and a JCV amp just for the sub... pulled out the factory headunit and amp, put in a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X693 receiver... its got enough power for the other speakers I didn't need a separate amp. I listen to my ipod 90% of the time, the kenwood has the cable out the back so my ipod sits in the glovebox.
I bought everything and had it professionally installed for less than $1K. I'm really happy with the sound improvement.

Thanks Hammy. I have the MyGig Nav unit and am not ready to scrap it for a new headunit. I just want better sound at volume with the top off or the windows down. Like Caljeep, I'm a family man now so I don't need to rattle the Jeep apart with bass or anything (although my kids would probably like that). Sounds like I should move the sound system farther down the wish list until I can get some amps as well.

I probably don't listen to the volume any louder than the factory stereo could go, about 50% of the time I listen to classical music and the other 50% is mix of rock, blues, etc. I thought the detail I could hear from the factory stereo was really poor, before I bought my JK I had been driving a honda accord with factory stereo for the last 4 years - the honda system was adequate but I thought the JK factory system was signficantly worse... some of it I'm sure is due to the acoustics inherent in the different vehicle designs.

There was a big jump in sound quality from just replacing the speakers and a smaller improvement from switching head units.

I was fortunate enough my budget worked out that I was able to do my lift, tires, bumpers, etc and still had enough to squeeze in my audio upgrades - they were last on the list though.

in my current setup im running a JVC Kameleon headunit, polk audio DB 6.5 coax in the rear and polk DB 6.5 components up front the polks are powered by a 250rms diamond audio amp and these speakers scream. i have a alpine sub setup thats equal to about 2 10's and these polks will drown the bass out and hurt my ears. i can compare them to alpine type r 6.5 components i think the alpines were louder but wouldnt fit in my speaker locations and were about double the cost. all that said i love these speakers
