Hard Top Question
Hello All,
I have a quick question. I have a 2009 4 door wrangler with a soft top. I am going to pick up a hard top from someone several hours away. After I remove the windows are door frames, can I fold the top down and put the hard top on temporarily or do I need to completely remove the soft top? I will be taking the hard top right off when I get home.
Thanks

once the plastic door frames and tailgate bar are removed the soft top can be folded up in the rear so that nothing rests on the bed rails of the jeep and the hard top can be installed. i dont recommend leaving it that way forever but to get u home with the hard top u should be fine- thats the way i picked mine up from the dealer so it cant be too bad. make sure u get all the lock down screws that hold the hard top onto the jeep with the hard top or u will not have a hard top for long.(dont ask. i have 74 blazer full top and six years ago i didnt lock the hard top down-400lbs of fiberglass will fly into the air like a kite and create enough vacuum at 60mph to suck the 33" spare tire right out of the bed and over the roll bar into the front passenger seat-it was a awesome site and totaled the hard top and the tire bruised up my shoulder pretty bad and the sudden vacuum left my ears ringing and muted for half the day.-)

I picked up my Jeep from my dealer 120 miles away when I bought it new. I drove home and removed the hardtop just long enough to completely remove the soft top which was attached to the usual mounting plates, folded flat in the back, wrapped around the soft top frame work and then wrapped in a cheap piece of platic. I think the big problem is that if the soft top is not removed it will scuff and possibley abraid from the hard top but for a short distance, FWIW, I would have no fear of wrapping it in a blanket or sheet and putting the hard top over it.
It will work. All you have to do is lay the top down and remove the door frames. They do not recomend that you leave it that way due to it being possible to damage to the soft top from rubbing. but a few hours should not hurt anything.
