Non-hemi engine swaps, what's been done?
I'd love to see the 4.7HO from the grand cherokee mated to the stock tranny. I had a dakota with the 4.7 in it and for a truck it was damn fast! The HO motor is supposed to have a little more power.
I would like it if the 4.7L V8 would fit....if they could work on the mpg a little, that would be great. The 4.7L I had in my Grand Cherokee was fast and strong. I loved it.
Edit: Doh, beat me to it.

so everyone and their bother has swapped in a Hemi ($15-30,00)... some ppl are addin a super charger ($5500).
the supercharged 3.8 still can't lay a finger on my old-school 4.6L I6 Stroker that i build BRAND new everything for $1500
there is the one guy on here swappin in the 5.3L GM and i love that ... but has anyone anywhere done anything else? AMC 401?

I would take the Hemi over any 4.6 stroker.
Two problems with motor swaps (assuming smog legality and all).
1. In most states the motor has to be of the same year or newer than the one it is replacing and must be from the same manufacturer. That leaves out the 4.0, 4.6, 401, etc, etc.
2. Transmission issues. The Jk, even the Unlimited only has so much length. Trying to fit a big long turbo 400 behind something can lead to some severe driveline angles (they are bad enough as is). No one is saying it is impossible, just takes alot of creative engineering, no bolt-in's here.

2) you can make an AMC360/727/d300 work in a cj-5 with only a mild rear stretch ... i can make anything work in a JK.
PLUS! you can get a stock bellhousing to mate an I6 strait to the JK stock tranny and use all the same mounts/shafts/ext. just bolt up the motor and make new mounts for it where it lands.
if someone was going to give you one or the other fully installed ... i agree. if i was going to pay for it, not a chance. (assuming i didn't want any more electronics in the jeep)
I would love to have a Cummins 5.9 in my JK.
Failing that, I'd settle for a different diesel. As long as it's got gobs of torque on the bottom end, I'd be happy.
Failing that, then an I-6 stroker. There's not a thing wrong with 250 - 300 reliable horsepower in a vehicle the size of a JK, as long as it makes lots of torque at low revs.

My plan as soon as the warranty is up is to grab a 3.0L CRD from a Cherokee and pop that bad boy in... I've been quoted 3k for the motor and computer... (not installed) I guess I'll need all the emitions stuff to though.
Now I no a lot of states enforce the emissions rule about the engine from the same manufacturer. If Daimler owned Chrysler in 2008 could you put a Mercedes Bluetec Diesel in the Jeep? It's a 3.0 L diesel engine that produce around 200 hp & 400 ft-lbs of torque.
