Default Uconnect..... Sorry confused

I just bought an 08 Unlimited X. When I push the button for Bluetooth it says not available. Why not? Can I activate it? Does it cost money to get it activated even if I still have a warranty? I am confused on why this is available but not activated.....

If you look through the forum, there are bunch of threads on this.

Basically, the uconnect feature on the radios comes from the factory disabled due to concerns about it working with the various top/door configurations. You can add the feature to the radio, what you need to do depends on the radio you have.

If you have the non-nav radio, you'll need to get a kit which comes with a module, and microphone, and after I think it needs to be flashed at the dealer once its installed. If you have the nav radio, you just need to add the mic and activate the uconnect on an engineering menu on the radio. I have the nav radio and put in the kit, took me less than 5 minutes to install it. It works great, and I never have any problems with people hearing me.

Thx for clearing that up! I will look into how much the kit cost and see if I can afford it.

If it is not a MyGig, you need the Uconnect module that can be purchased at the dealer or at many aftermarket sites. It is approximately $200. You can also add the iPod cable for about $50 more to allow control of an iPod from the head unit. Once installed you will need to have the dealer flash the computer to tell it to activate Uconnect which should be about a 15 minute job and cost no more than $40 at the dealer. If you have a MyGig, you only need the mic and can activate the Uconnect from the engineering menu by pressing SEEK-UP + SEEK-DOWN + MENU at the same time.
