Stock JK Tech Bulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.

Is this bad, really bad, or not bad at all?

You may want to consider getting some new diff covers. The stock ones are very thin and some have a tendency to hang down lower than the pumpkin and get caught up on rocks. Thats what messed up my stock diff cover. I got some Riddler covers and have not had to worry about my diff covers since.

No drips no problem. Mine looks the same and the dealer says its ok, however they did reseal the rear diff and replace the pinion seal under warranty.

Mostly correct but try 50K plus and that is if you over do it and are anal, 100K is conservative. (And some manufactures have specs that say lifetime if it is synthetic fluid from the factory)

99% right and she a GIRL. Just don’t forget to clean the mating surfaces of the cover and housing and let them dry before adding the RTV to ONE of them. Spraying the gears is way over the top unless you can see metal shaving in there and if you do see metal shaving you have bigger problems anyway.

The common scenario is your differential breather hose pushed some oil out, because you have had too much in, when going over a bump or driving at highway speeds. That, or it can even been coolant or washer fluid that spouted out when going over a bump. Or maybe your sealant needs replacing.
I would definitely change the sealant between diff cover and the diff next time you change the oil. In the meantime I would not worry about this. Your JK is 100% fine. Just watch to see if the stains get any worse or begin drippinng on your garage floor.
True this minor seepage is nothing to worry about unless you are anal (which I am) but you can plainly see this is coming from the cover seal not the breather tube. Also the lube locker gaskets are really nice but RTV is way cheaper and you can get it at any auto parts place even you local walmart.

Ahh, so that's what the change oil indicator was for... I thought it meant that it was time to put more 3in1 oil on the hinges...

LOL! Nice try, but I'll pop a hole in the floorboard and fred flintstone it if it comes to that!

Nah, seriously thanks for all the input, ya'll. I'll get some RTV and go to town! I want to eventually get some beefier diff covers, but right now the money is an issue and it's the lift I'm spending money on first.

Yet another problem solved on my favorite forum

Not to get off track, but how did the bedlining of the bumpers go? I'm thinking about doing that as well. Got any pics of the results?
