Cabin Air Filter Install for JK

Cabin Air Filter Install for JK
How many times have you had a face full of dust the first couple of times you turn on the A/C after a day of wheeling? Well, no more after this $10 and 10 minute install of a Cabin Air Filter for all older JK's.
My friend in the FMCA 4 Wheelers came up with this idea and it works great.
Parts Required
- one pair of nips or diagonal cutters
- a razor knife
= a FRAM CA3915 or equivalent air filer.
1. Remove the glove compartment. Squeeze the sides together to get the stops past the sides of the opening. Open it until the hinges separate and place the glove compartment aside.
2. Turn your ignition switch on and put your A/C system into Recirculate mode so that the door to the fan behind the grate opens up. Turn the ignition off.
3. With a razor blade cutter and diagonal cutters remove the air grate facing the back of the glove compartment. It is there to keep large particles from getting in the fan. The filter will do this after it is installed. Throw the grate away.
4. Install the filter as shown.
5. Reinstall the glove compartment.
6. Enjoy filtered air whether in the "recirculate" or "fresh air" mode!

I'm going to save this thread, as it does look interesting. I do a lot of overland trips, where dust is an issue. Too bad one of the vendors hasn't figured out a quick and easy retrofit. My only problem with this mod is the complete removal of the grate.
Unfortunately, I'm not that agile anymore, or I'd try to experiment.

The grate serves no purpose other than keeping debris out of the fan. Once the filter is installed, it not only keeps debris out of the fan but all dust as well.
This whole install can be done while sitting in the passenger seat - you do not need much agility at all. If you wheel in the dust, you should do the install...

The photo was from my friends truck - not mine. I do take a leaf blower to the cabin periodically - including behind the dash. You would be amazed at where the dust can hide...

I do enjoy the nice fresh air when in dusty locations, huge improvement over my TJ Rubi with no AC

This is one mod that is definitely on my "To Do" list.
